Sir David Frederick Attenborough is a TV presenter, biologist, natural historian and author, best known for his nature documentaries and writing. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society.
After his initial knighthood in 1985, Sir David was knighted for a second time in 2022.
Born on 8 May 1926 in Isleworth, Middlesex, he grew up in College House on the campus of the University College, Leicester.
Attenborough was a senior manager at the BBC in the 60s-70s. His filmography as writer, presenter and narrator has spanned eight decades and includes the Planet Earth franchise, The Blue Planet and its sequel. He is the only person to have won BAFTAs in all categories – black and white, colour, high-definition, 3D and 4K resolutions.
Attenborough’s earlier work focused more on the wonders of the natural world, his later work more vocal in support of environmental causes. He has advocated for mitigating climate change, restoring planetary biodiversity, limiting population growth, reducing meat consumption, and setting aside more areas for natural preservation.
