Rafal's background is analytical and biological chemistry. He did his PhD and postdoctoral research in single-cell proteomics at Imperial College London, UK. He was an editor at Genome Biology before joining Scientific Reports in August 2016.

Gurbir S. Grewal is a man with several feathers in his cap. Not only was he the first American Sikh prosecutor in the United States, he has also become the first American Sikh to be named Attorney General in the history of the United States of America!
In 2016, Grewal was appointed as the prosecutor in Bergen County, New Jersey and 2018 saw him being as appointed the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey! In his capacity as the prosecutor, he fought heavily against opioids epidemic and white-collar crimes. He has worked towards establishing better relations between police and the different communities and also the preservation of constitutional rights.
Grewal is a first-generation resident and son of Indian immigrant parents. He is one of the prominent faces in the emerging Desi wave in American politics, alongside the likes of Mr. Ravinder Singh Bhalla (Mayor of New Jersey), State Senator Pramila Jayapal and Junior Senator(California) Kamala Harris.
Grewal is an independent thinker and in the times of government shutdown and faceless campaign presently against immigrants in the form of ill-conceived reforms to the Bill For The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), he seems like the best person to advocate on their behalf if need be.
